Cracking open the door to normalcy
By order of our Govenor some businesses may reopen now...as long as they take precautions and limit how many customers are inside a store or establishment. Having been on lockdown for over 40 days I am VERY anxious to get out into the world! It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out because the usual rules won't apply, new strict ones are in place:
1. Wearing masks for everyone, customers and workers.
2. Limited customers to 10 or fewer
3. Hand sanitation
4. Curbside pick up
It still amazes me just how much has changed and how those changes have played out. When I think of the word "Pandemic" I think of fast deaths and protests, people running around like insane people. Sure, there's a little of that, but the rest of us? Calm, or at least staying still and waiting all of this out. It was like someone flipped a giant off switch and the country as a whole shut down instantly. Our daily routine drastically changed overnight. Every piece of mail is wiped down with disinfectant, I wipe down all surfaces before bed every night, and of course we wear masks everywhere.
As time has gone on though it feels like about 4 days ago everyone collectively got restless, and now I hear rumblings of frustration especially from those out of work. I feel so badly for those who have lost loved ones, are sick, or have lost their jobs...but this is a pandemic and the virus writes the rules. Protesters are asking for every business to re-open, and while I understand why, to do so would cause needless death and land us back in a lockdown AGAIN. I'm pretty sure that's where we are headed anyway, scientists said this virus would have 2 waves; This first wave of infections we are in now, and a second one in late fall/winter. The problem is that if we open all the businesses reopen we'll just create a third wave of the virus and set back all the progress made. I REALLY don't want to be locked in my house again for 45 days, but I'm pretty sure that is where we are headed. We still can't travel, no one can (well flights are functioning but you need a reason).
They say the 2nd wave will be MUCH worse, and that has me a bit fearful. 78,000 deaths so far, that was bad enough thank you very much. I don't want to see how much worse fate has in store.
