Unknowns
The worst part of this pandemic for me is the unknowns. So far we are all healthy, and we are so very lucky when so many are sick, but the unknowns eat at me.
We are on house lockdown, and are only allowed to go out for essential services (doctors appt, groceries for example), everything else is closed. There is no such thing as browsing a store or hanging out for coffee, all that is gone. I can deal with that, but the uncertainty of how long this will go on bugs me the most. Best guesses range from 6 more months to 2 more years ( a few say 3).
We are the lucky ones. My husband retired a few years ago, so we are not dependent on his going to a job each day to survive. So far we are all healthy, and while we may not have everything we want, we have what we need to survive.
On a day to day basis our routines have changed, some changes are drastic but most are just small changes.
- My husband uses a pulse oxyimator on me twice a week and checks my temperature twice a week.
-When we go to the grocery store it's an exciting event, but different then it used to be. Aisles are "One way" traffic. We sanitize the cart before using it, wear a mask in the store, and then disinfect all the items when we bring them home.
- My stepsons care home has a day program for special needs kids, that is closed so he is home with us.
-The mail arriving is always exciting, even more so if there is a package.
I also worry that right now will be thought of as "The good old days" in a few months. They say 50-70% of us will eventually get Covid, and as more get sick supplies will dwindle and deliveries will get sporadic. If a vaccine becomes available then the worst will be stopped, but at the earliest that can happen is January. That feels like 10 years from now!
Our state has been on lock down the longest, we went first, so I suppose our cabin fever is the worst. But again, we are the lucky ones, and one day we won't have to talk about ventilator shortages, or if groceries are in stock, or randomnly checking each others health.
One day soon....right?
