Looking forward to the holidays
It will be a bizarre holiday season this year, I am both looking forward to it and worried about all the changes. Things will certainly be simpler and paired down
No, or at least limited, trick or treating
No pictures with mall Santa's
No large family gatherings for Thanksgiving
No shopping at malls or stores. With many stores closed I see a resurgence of cards, and gifts bought online only. Carolling might return :)
No ball drop for NYE....or at least no crowds allowed at all.
No trick or treating, or if there will be it'll be 4 kids instead of the usual 60-100 that show up at our door.
I do think there will be areas (states, cities, maybe just isolated neighborhoods) that buck authority and choose to have gatherings anyway. I predict that will end badly. I'm waiting for someone to get on the news and say "But Santa is part of our Christian holiday, it is our right." It will happen.
With the postal service in chaos I suspect we will have to mail any gifts a month in advance.
I wonder too, if a second wave does hit will the grocery stores go back to being cleaned out? Will supplies even be there to make holiday meals with? I plan on slowly stocking up over the next month so at least I can do as much baking as I want. Worst case scenario is I can bake cookies and treats for my in laws as gifts. It'll work not just as a gift but to fill in gaps in provisions if they run low.
One bright spot is I think Christmas light displays this year will be EPIC. They are primarily drive through so I'm sure many more communities then usual will light up neighborhoods and downtown core areas in smaller cities. It's always been one of my favorite things about the holidays...at least that will still exist.
