It just keeps going and going

 There are "Super spreader" events that seem to get more people sick then would seem possible, one such event seems to have been the recent supreme court nominee ceremony at The White House. It was outdoors in the rose garden but seemingly doesn't matter, as attendees all sat close to eachother and mingled, hugged, and talked. Now each hour seems to bring news of yet another person sick.

- Former press sec Kellyanne Conway

- 2 senators

- reports of others (but they aren't confirmed)

Yesterday they had several others confirmed sick...ALL from this one event, and of course the President is hospitalized. 

 
As for us, we are staying the course and staying home as much as is possible. We're trying to plan ahead for the holidays so we can maybe have my mother in law over safely. Plans are we will all quarantine for 5 days prior to having her over, that's enough time to start showing symptoms, and then have her come over to have dinner and open gifts. Out of everyone locally our branch of the family is the most isolated and least likely to be sick, thus why we'd have her over. We just can't stomach that after 7 months of being quarantined at home the idea that she'd have to spend the holidays alone too...it's too much.

Stores today

 When the pandemic hit stores were cleaned out of many items they normally have in stock. Slowly a few items came back, but in limited numbers. Now when you go to the grocery store they have disinfectant wipes....but it's all some generic off brand I have never heard of. This is true store wide; some items are consistently back in stock but they are all strange brands, and I'm not exactly sure where they are sourced. Clorox and Lysol wipes are still $75 on Ebay (Normally $6). Also stores have been strategically arranging shelves so they look fully stocked., but if you look closer they just spread out certain items to fill in what would be bare spots on the shelves left by items they still don't have. For the most part things are semi-normal. The stores are still stocked and we go about business as usual....it just takes a minute of looking to realize though that all is not quite as it appears.

Just posting it here so in the future I don't forget what was going on: Today is Sunday, April 26, 2020. - We are at 40 days of social isolation. - The dollar is worth $5.32, the euro $5.77 and the pound $6.54. - Gas is $1.49 for regular & $1.79 for premium(only in Louisiana) - Louisiana currently has 26,140 COVID cases, 1,601 deaths. - US Postal Service - while the rest of the world quarantined, we continued to labor with honor, providing the essential service of connecting the world, and providing our constituents essential (and not so essential) packages. - Schools have been closed since mid March and are teaching remotely on-line. This will continue for the rest of the school year. - We have to stay away from each other more than a meter. There are lines / tapes inside the stores to keep people 6 feet apart. - Bars and restaurants only for home delivery & pick-up. - Parks, beaches and walk-in places are not accessible to the public...

Permanence

 So much of what we do feels cobbled together in rules we made for ourselves: 1. Tiny towns seem safe 2. Specific places feel safe (my gym, Target, the grocery store) 3. We wear masks anywhere. 4. We laugh a little bit (height of the pandemic we didn't laugh and just went through the motions) but it's nothing like the silliness we used to have in our daily interactions. Thankfully ALL of our family (minus my nephew) is vaccinated so we can reasonably gather safely together. The south east US? Not so much; Louisiana, Texas, and Florida are doing awful. I just can't wrap my head around the idea this might stick around...5..10 years, and vaccinations will keep going.  I miss my Mom. I wonder not if I CAN go home for the holidays but if I SHOULD go home. Life has changed permanently. I'm trying to accept that
