Costco is once again placing limits on purchases of toilet paper, paper towels and cleaning supplies:

The Delta variant continues to spread across the globe, sending demand for those items higher. But that's not the only reason why Costco is limiting purchases. The warehouse store is also having trouble finding trucks, drivers and shipping containers to get the items to its stores.
"The factors pressuring supply chains and inflation include port delays, container shortages, Covid disruptions, shortages on various components, raw materials and ingredients, labor cost pressures and truck and driver shortages," said Costco CFO Richard Galanti, speaking to investors after reporting quarterly results Thursday evening. "Various major brands are requesting longer lead times, and in some cases, difficulty in finding drivers and trucks on short notice."
Last year, Costco and other retailers were having trouble keeping those products on their shelves because of panic buying by customers worried that they wouldn't be able to purchase them in the future. Manufacturers were also unable to keep up with the surge in demand.

Stores today

 When the pandemic hit stores were cleaned out of many items they normally have in stock. Slowly a few items came back, but in limited numbers. Now when you go to the grocery store they have disinfectant wipes....but it's all some generic off brand I have never heard of. This is true store wide; some items are consistently back in stock but they are all strange brands, and I'm not exactly sure where they are sourced. Clorox and Lysol wipes are still $75 on Ebay (Normally $6). Also stores have been strategically arranging shelves so they look fully stocked., but if you look closer they just spread out certain items to fill in what would be bare spots on the shelves left by items they still don't have. For the most part things are semi-normal. The stores are still stocked and we go about business as usual....it just takes a minute of looking to realize though that all is not quite as it appears.

Maintaining a facade

 Soon it will be spackling the facade. Virus cases are getting worse, but for now things look fairly normal...at least the "New" normal...but winter is coming, and bad things are coming with it. This week we voted by mail in ballot for the first time, but our government (Dear leader, yuck) has ripped out postal processing machines and closed down polling places in an attempt to steal the election (again, in my opinion) so we took our ballots to our county office in person. Nationwide the lines stretch for 10 hours in some places to vote, turnout is INCREDIBLE and I could not be prouder. Tear out machines in an attempt to stop us? We'll find a workaround. Make us stand in one line for an entire day? Okay, we brought chairs and pizza is on the way. You would simply not believe voter turnout, in some places 300% of normal. It makes me so proud! It also makes me angry, our ancestors fought for our right to vote and now we are fighting all over again, during a pandemic no less...

It just keeps going and going

 There are "Super spreader" events that seem to get more people sick then would seem possible, one such event seems to have been the recent supreme court nominee ceremony at The White House. It was outdoors in the rose garden but seemingly doesn't matter, as attendees all sat close to eachother and mingled, hugged, and talked. Now each hour seems to bring news of yet another person sick. -Trumps campaign manager - Former press sec Kellyanne Conway - 2 senators - reports of others (but they aren't confirmed) Yesterday they had several others confirmed sick...ALL from this one event, and of course the President is hospitalized.    As for us, we are staying the course and staying home as much as is possible. We're trying to plan ahead for the holidays so we can maybe have my mother in law over safely. Plans are we will all quarantine for 5 days prior to having her over, that's enough time to start showing symptoms, and then have her come over to have dinner and o...
